Panoramic view over the 3000 m (9800 ft) high Andean highland north of Otavalo. The city is

left of the picture's center. On the leftmost side of the image lies the eastern rim of the

highland, behind which follows the lowlands of the Amazon. On the right side lies the crater

lake "Laguna Cuicocha" which marks the western rim of the plateau. Below the rim the terrain

drops away down to the rain forest of the Pacific coast.
