Its probably the only way to provide living space for 48 million people in a small mountainous country. South Korea covers an area which is only about twice as large as the the one of Switzerland or Denmark (Switzerland has 41000 km² and 7.2 millionen people, Denmark covers 43000 km² with 5.3 million inhabitants and Korea has 99000 km²). This brings Korea into the wirld-wide top positions in average population density (480 inhabitants/km². Switzerland: 170 inhabitants/km², Denmark: 125 inhabitants/km², USA: 30 inhabitants/km²).
