Hwaseong, Suwon. View from the fortress wall to the apartment complexes in the suburb. Every Korean city has tons of these blocks. Its probably the only way to provide living space for 48 million people in a small mountainous country. South Korea covers an area which is only about twice as large as the the one of Switzerland or Denmark (Switzerland has 41000 km2 and 7.2 millionen people, Denmark covers 43000 km2 with 5.3 million inhabitants and Korea has 99000 km2). This brings Korea into the wirld-wide top positions in average population density (480 inhabitants/km2. Switzerland: 170 inhabitants/km2, Denmark: 125 inhabitants/km2, USA: 30 inhabitants/km2).
