Machu Picchu is located at an amazing spot on 2380 m (7800 ft) height in the cloud forest of

the Amazon. The city is surrounded by the Río Urubamba and two rings of steep mountain

edges. Due to the isolated location the city wasn't visible for the Spanish conquerors and thus

escaped destruction. The Inca kept the city a secret and it got forgotten for many years

until it was rediscovered in 1911.
