Cyprus, September 2003

Claudia and I spent some fall vacation on Cyprus in 2003. The island lies in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Turkey. Cyprus is split into an independent southern part and a Turkish-occupied northern section. We spent one week in Ayia Napa which is a crazy party place in southern Cyprus. The town offers a large variety of evening entertainment and some nice beaches with incredibly clear water. Swimming in Nissi Bay was just awesome. The water shined in all kinds of clear, bright blue and turquoise colors. One day, we joined a cruise with a catamaran yacht to the nearby Cape Greco. We snorkeled off the cape in crystal-clear water with fantastic far-sight.

After Ayia Napa, we spent another week in Paphos at the other end of the island. This city has lots of cultural highlights, e.g. one of the best preserved Greek/Roman mosaic floors in the Mediterranean. Close to the city lies the mythological birth place of Aphrodite, goddess of love.
