In the 19th and 20th centuries Sri Lanka became a plantation economy famous for its production and export of cinnamon, rubber and Ceylon tea. Tea dominates still today, besides products made of coconut. In 2007, Sri Lanka was the second-biggest tea producer worldwide behind Kenia but before China. During the last decades the nation moved towards an industrialzed economy with development in textiles, clothing and jewelry.
